High School is for students aged 14-18. For 11-14 year-olds, please refer to Middle School.
Woodford's Secondary School (11-18 years old) consists of:
Middle School – Year 6, 7 & 8 (11-14 years old) and
High School – Year 9, 10, 11 & 12 (14-18 years old)
High School (Year 9 & 10) – Cambridge Upper Secondary Programme
Cambridge Upper Secondary (IGCSE) is the world’s most popular international curriculum for 14-16-year-olds, leading to globally recognized and valued Cambridge IGCSE qualifications. Over 9000 schools worldwide teach it. Almost 500 000 entries each year from 144 countries.
Cambridge CIE is the group award of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and requires the study of subjects drawn from the five different IGCSE subject groups. It gives schools the opportunity to benefit from offering a broad and balanced curriculum by recognizing the achievements of students who pass examinations in at least seven subjects.
At High school, students at Woodford begin to specialize more. English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Information & Communication Technology (ICT), Physical education and continue to be compulsory subjects, and students also choose two additional subjects: Chemistry & Physics or Business Studies & History.
In all these subjects (except for Physical education) they start a 2-year preparation for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exams which are taken at the end of Year 10 (October - November). At the end of Year 10, students will choose the subjects which they wish to study for AS & A Level in Year 11 & 12.
Choosing options for Year 9 -10 Studies 2020-21
Cambridge schools worldwide have helped develop Cambridge IGCSE, which provides excellent preparation for the Cambridge Advanced stage including Cambridge International AS/A Levels and Cambridge Pre-U, as well as other progression routes. It incorporates the best in international education for learners at this level. It develops in line with changing needs and is regularly updated and extended. Cambridge IGCSE teachers can draw on excellent resources, training, and advice from subject experts.
High School (Year 11 & 12) – Cambridge International AS/A Levels (16-18 years old)
Cambridge International AS/A Levels are internationally benchmarked qualifications providing excellent preparation for university education. They are part of the Cambridge Advanced stage. They are taken in over 125 countries and offer a choice of many different subjects. Cambridge International AS/A Level qualifications are widely recognized and valued by universities and employers alike.
The AS/A Level qualifications give students the opportunity to go to universities (state-funded and private) in Solomon Islands, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, PNG or any other country around the world.
